This week it seems like everyone is talkin’ about us. You might have heard our name echoing around the local surrounds. For one thing the Welwyn Hatfield Times’ new food critic is singing our praises.
And over on Solar Radio (Available on DAB and online) they’ve been generating enthusiasm for Funk and Soul Night. Friday Night from 8pm-late. (Turn your sound up to listen to their advert now).
We’ve borrowed two of Solar’s Top DJs for the night, Neil Simson and Dennis O’Brien, along with the excellent Ray Douglass to spin some of the greatest Funk & Soul tracks from every era of the genre.
Last time these guys were here, we were packed to the rafters (what are rafters? Do we have rafters? We were packed anyway). We loved it. You loved it. They loved it. Everyone felt the love for the soul. We booked them again, and we had only one reservation:
“We’re going to need a bigger dance floor!”
We just couldn’t contain the party. We were overpowered by funk (bonus pub quiz points if you know the punk band who had a hit with that).
This time around we are going all the way. We’ve got that bigger dance floor, and head-chef Michelle has put together a fiery menu of Southern American Soul Food from BBQ classic ribs and wings to some excellent Cajun creations like Spiced Mackerel and Bourbon glazed Pork Belly.
The bar staff are getting into the spirit. Dressed to impress in their best 1970s disco get up. The stuff that makes you glad that HD full colour wasn’t so accessible back in the 70s.
Tonight, even the vodka is presented in glorious technicolour
Homemade skittles vodka that comes in all the flavours of the rainbow. A sweet vodka treat to kick start the weekend and the dancing.
And was have so much lime chopped up and ready to put in your drinks. Due largely to a misunderstanding. We hope no one turned up expecting Sol night.
Drinking, Dining and Dancing till late. A great party at
The White Horse, Burnham Green.
And this is just the start…
Soul Sanctuary DJ is the first of our brand new weekly “Funky Friday” events. With live music every other week and some little treats on the weeks in between. There should never be any question of where you are going to start your weekend.
